The Origins of Grassroots

Long, long ago (2008), Groupon was born out of a group action and fundraising platform called The Point. As the Groupon community grew, our collective consumer power helped people get great deals and discover fun ways to experience their cities.

After a desert vision quest where we invoked our ancestral spirits, we are repossessed with The Point’s powers. Newly inspired, we’ve devised a way to connect Groupon users with their communities in a different way, with a program called G-Team. Groupon followers who want to do good, have fun, and make a real impact could join forces through these campaigns.

The G-Team project was a success and in April, 2012 G-Team relaunched as Groupon Grassroots, a fully integrated part of the Groupon family. Every Groupon Grassroots campaign connects you with enough people to achieve something awesome that you couldn’t have done alone.

Is Grassroots a Good Fit For You?

Groupon Grassroots inspires people to support projects and campaigns that spur measurable social change. Here is what we look for:

  • A variety of causes in different issue areas.
  • Project-specific campaign ideas, rather than general fundraising or tickets to an annual event.
  • Compelling projects with the potential to motivate and inspire the average person on the street.
  • Projects that address a genuine community need backed by research or media content.
  • Generates measurable local impact.
  • No affiliation with political parties or religious groups.
  • The ability to be funded by a single campaign, as large-scale and long-term projects are unlikely to succeed.
  • No "find my life" projects, such as paying an individual's tanning bed subscription.
  • Benefit the local communities of our subscribers.
  • Run for a limited period of time, usually one to three days.
  • Support causes that resonate with our subscribers.
  • Are creatively organised around a compelling story.

Sound Like You? Here's What You'll Need To Apply

  • One dedicated point person to manage the campaign with the Groupon Grassroots team
  • The ability to meet our eligibility and project criteria requirements found above
  • A compelling project idea (or several) that will benefit your community. The project must be achievable with £1 to £1,000
  • The project must have a measurable impact that is reported back to supporters following your Grassroots feature
  • It must also have a website, Facebook page, or other web presence
